About Us

Our Grimmer ancestors came from Leipzig, Stöteritz, Saxony, Germany and settled in the Town of Manheim, City of Dolgeville, Herkimer, NY after their immigration in 1887 & 1888.  This family worked at the Daniel Green Shoe Factory in Dolgeville for almost 50 years.  One of them owned a dairy market in Dolgeville.  O
ne of them owned a restaurant on Main St. in Dolgeville...

My great great grandfather, Louis Herman Grimmer, helped organize the Turn Verein Society in Dolgeville.  He and his brothers also participated in the Turn Fest events that were held in the surrounding cities, including New York City.  Herman coached the Turners which lead them to many first prizes.  Herman’s brother Max relocated to Rome, New York so he could be the Turnwart for the Turn Verein Chapter there.  Click here for the History of the Turn Verein.

Our Grimmer ancestors and descendants have also been found in Syracuse, New York and Shelton & Stamford, Connecticut; Almeda, California.
